Encouraged and inspired by Mother Teresa, multi-lingual author and educator Angela Muka offers students A Book of Idiomatic Phrases.
By reading and studying the numerous English-language idioms in the first part of this book, students will understand the expressions, learn to write and construct various phrases, and speak intelligently. Examples of various types of letters in the second part of the book-such as resume cover letters, sales letters, condolence letters, and personal letters to friends-illustrate the structure, rhythm, and etiquette of each type of letter.
Through the true-to-life examples of each idiom and the organization and content of the letters, not only will readers learn to use English-language idioms, but also they will be uplifted and encouraged to deal more compassionately with others. Angela Muka's life has been like a great storm in the ocean, pushing the waves in all different directions. As many young girls who dream of studying abroad to enrich their lives, Angela traveled to Italy to study Italian and German, and then went to Rome to study fashion design.
World War II put an end to her studies, and she joined her father, an ambassador, in Egypt. From there, they went to Cannes, France, where Angela attended classes at l'École Spéciale des Arts et Techniques de la Mode. After the war, Angela's father told her, "I want to give you a free country-America. You are going to love this country." There she taught dress design and pattern making at D'Youville College in Buffalo and high-school French and German in Iroquois, New York.
Angela's first books, written at the request of her students and colleagues, were on patternmaking. After her friend, Mother Teresa, saw Angela's book on children's patterns she said, "Now that you dressed the children, you need to write a book to enrich the lives of young people to get all kinds of knowledge." In response, Angela wrote this book, A Book of Idiomatic Phrases.
